Ethics and Sustainability
"We were one of the first companies in the UK to use recycled precious metals and responsibly sourced gemstones. With more than 20 years experience as a goldsmith, caring for the environment has always been at the heart of everything we do"
- Lilia Nash
Why we work with Sustainable Metals and Gemstones.
The traditional jewellery industry has often depended on extracting Earth's valuable resources, such as precious metals and gemstones, through mining practices that are detrimental to the environment. For instance, the creation of just one gold band can result in five tons of environmental waste. This waste not only contaminates local soil but also nearby water bodies, posing risks to the well-being of both local communities and wildlife.
Sustainable Gold and Platinum Resources

Driven by a deep passion for jewellery and an awareness of the detrimental effects of mining, Lilia's creations use 100% recycled 9ct or 18ct gold and 950 platinum - no newly mined metals are used.
All of our precious metals are 100% sustainable and recycled. We source our metals from a reputable refiner (who is a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council), which recycles precious metal scrap into gold and platinum ready to be used to create our unique pieces.
Ethical Gemstones

Whenever feasible, we prioritise using gemstones that are traceable, fair trade mined, recycled from vintage jewellery, or lab-grown. Our stones are carefully selected from a handful of trusted suppliers based in the UK, Australia, and the US. While sourcing fair trade gems isn't always possible, pieces adorned with ethically sourced stones will be clearly indicated in the product description.
Fair Trade and Ethical Sapphires
Currently, the terms 'fair trade' and 'ethical' when referring to gemstones are not universally defined. While there are no official guidelines for fair trade gemstones, meaning suppliers cannot register with the World Fair Trade Organization, we prioritise transparency. Our selected gemstone suppliers, both in the UK and abroad, are open about the origins of their products.
We collaborate with these suppliers who ensure their miners receive fair wages and essential safety equipment. Additionally, these suppliers are committed to eco-friendly practices during and post-mining. Beyond that, they foster community development, often supporting local children’s homes and orphanages.
Conflict-free Diamonds

All of our diamonds adhere to the Kimberley Process, ensuring they are 100% conflict-free, sourced from trustworthy suppliers. For enhanced assurance, we offer fair trade Canadian diamonds and recycled diamonds, with larger variants available upon request.
An eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to natural diamonds is lab grown diamonds, which are available on request. We also offer other lab-grown gemstones such as emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and alexandrites, all of which have a significantly reduced environmental footprint compared to their mined counterparts.
